“Dance like nobody’s watching,” may be overused! It’s still true. You are taking dance classes because you want to learn to dance, or improve your skills. If you and the rest of our students were already world champion dancers, you wouldn’t need dance lessons, and we would be out of a job!
Some people fear dancing because they feel they don’t have rhythm or that they will look bad on the dance floor. Others won’t dance because they want to be really good right from the start. Still others are uncomfortable because they don’t want to be the center of attention. Brave men cower at the thought of a dance floor… even with the help of an expert instructor.

Dancing is fun, no matter what your skill level. It’s great exercise, and no matter what you think, most of the people in your class are probably too worried about themselves to devote energy to watching you.
Here’s is our classic quote: “If you can walk, you can dance.”
Dance competitions or dance recitals (what we call ‘Showcases’) are opportunities to get on the floor with people watching you. The reason they’re watching is to see the skills you’ve learned by taking dance lessons. The idea might seem scary at first, but knowing that you will be dancing for an audience will accelerate your learning, and help you gain confidence.
After your routine your fellow students will compliment you, and you will feel an incredible sense of accomplishment. You’ll learn that it isn’t painful to be the center of attention one in a while, and overcoming performance nerves will make social dancing much easier.
